Description
This rosewood desk from the 1960s or 1970s by Eigil Petersens Møbelfabrik combines a vintage charm with a visually modern aesthetic. The company’s furniture, especially its desks, is renowned for fine craftsmanship, blending natural wood materials with sleek, minimalist lines characteristic of Danish modernism. It is very often attributed to Kai Kristiansen and as such presented on many online platforms. For many years we have thought it was made by Feldballes Møbelfabrik. As the success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan. This desk is for sure a design success overpassing its times.
It features beautiful joinery and high-quality rosewood veneer, which is highly valued for its rarity, rich color and distinctive grain pattern. The legs, made of solid wood, have been perfectly integrated into the construction of the desk. The desk is equipped with six drawers, three on each side, providing ample storage space. The drawer fronts are fitted with elegant metal handles that complement the desk’s feet design, enhancing its modern look.
At the back of the desk, there are recesses that can serve as a handy library or storage for personal items. This feature not only makes the desk practical for home or office use but also allows it to be placed in the center of a room, as the back is designed to be visually appealing. The generously sized tabletop provides ample space to work on multiple projects simultaneously, making it ideal for professionals who require a substantial work area.
Despite the passage of several decades, the desk remains in excellent original condition. The drawers operate smoothly, reflecting the desk’s high build quality and careful maintenance over the years. The wood has been professionally cleaned and refreshed, preserving its stunning appearance. The condition is really surprising. It was probably used very little and has been placed in one office with not much light (rosewood fades with time, and here the color is still very vibrant with little patina).
