Description
Danish vintage teak Royal System wall unit, designed by Poul Cadovius, made some time in the 1950s. This mid-century set includes three cabinets and nine shelves.
The upper section has multiple open shelves for décor and books, with a display cabinet that includes internal glass shelf and sliding glass doors with a beautiful, unique pattern on it. It was used specifically in Royal System since the 1948. The lower section is created by another shelves and two cabinets, one with two doors for storage and a second, with drop front door, that can be use same as a bar cabinet or as a secretarie, that creates a workspace when opens. Typical of Cadovius’s design, the front finish with thin teak strips is found in most of his wall units, as well as in pieces like the Governor sofa. This very decorative Cado-made mark is a classic that will never go out of fashion. It is an entirely modular shelving system allowing for many arrangements. The presented set up is just an example. Shelves are mounted with brass hangers and can be placed higher or lower by using an easy mounting system, the same with cabinets.
The original manufacturer engraving “Made in Denmark” on the cabinet confirms its origin.
The set consists of:
- cabinet with two doors: H.: 51 / W.: 80 / D.: 38 cm
- drop front cabinet / lockable : H.: 42 / W.: 80 / D.: 36 (depth when fully opened: 73 cm)
- display cabinet H.: 33,5 / W.: 80 / D.: 30 cm
- 5 shelves 20 cm depth
- 3 shelves 24 cm depth
- 1 shelf 30 cm depth
- 4 solid wood uprights; 198 cm long
- brass hardware
Despite the passage of time, this set remains in excellent original condition. Our team has checked the wall unit and ensured that the components fit together and that the doors work smoothly and properly. The wood has been cleaned with professional compounds and protected with layers of Danish oil, enhancing its beauty.
