Description
This rosewood wall unit mounted on panels was designed by Poul Cadovius for Cado in the 1960s. It is an iconic example of mid-century modern design. Cadovius, a renowned Danish designer, revolutionized furniture design with his innovative, modular shelving systems that combined functionality with minimalist aesthetics and high class materials.
Crafted from luxurious rosewood, known for its rich grain and deep, warm tones, the wall unit features three large panels that mount directly onto the wall. The rosewood veneer highlights the wood’s natural beauty, giving it a distinctive, high-end look. Attention to detail is evident in the sleek edges, precise joinery, and the elegant way of attaching the shelves and cabinets. This craftsmanship ensures both durability and a refined appearance.
The wall unit includes shelves of varying depths, a cabinet with sliding doors, and two large desk-shelves, making it ideal as a home office. As it is all adjustable, the large shelves ( 40 cm deep ) can be perfect for big decorative item, like vases, sculptures or albums.
One of the standout features of Cadovius’s design is its modularity. The shelves and cabinet can be rearranged effortlessly, allowing users to customize the layout according to their needs. Mounted on panels rather than a floor-standing base, the design also saves floor space.
The wall unit consists of:
- 3 back panels: H: 243 / W: 80 cm
- 5 shelves: W: 80 / D: 22 cm
- 2 deskshelves: W: 80 / D: 38 cm
- glass-front cabinet: H: 56 / W: 80 / D: 22 cm
- solid rosewood brackets
Despite the passage of time, the wall unit remains in excellent original condition. It shows very light sun fading, that for some collectors is very desirable feature for rosewood, turning it slightly not brown-yellow tones that show its age, patina and natural beauty. Original “made in Denmark” engraved on the back of the shelves have been preserved, certifying the authentic origin of this iconic piece.
