Description
The Plia chair, designed in 1967 by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli, is a truly iconic piece that exemplifies the innovation and functionality of mid-century modern design. At the Fiera del Mobile in Milan in 1967, the chair was presented as “The Symbol of a New Era focused on plastic.”
This unique set of six chairs features a minimalist design with a sleek chromed steel frame, a seat, and a backrest made of transparent, slightly yellow-colored plastic. The choice of materials not only contributes to the chair’s modern aesthetic but also ensures durability and ease of maintenance. Its most remarkable characteristic is the three-disc hinge, which allows the chair to fold to a thickness of just five centimeters. This compact design makes the set incredibly versatile and easy to store.
The Plia chair was revolutionary, symbolizing modernity and practicality. It won numerous awards, including the Compasso d’Oro in 1970, and became part of the permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
The set has been checked by our team. Each chair remains in great vintage condition with minor signs of use and patina appropriate for their age. The steel frames, seats, and backrests have been cleaned. There are some stains and cracks in the plastic, but they are absolutely minimal for furniture that is nearly 60 years old. Additionally, thanks to the use of high-quality materials, these imperfections do not affect the functionality of the chairs. The folding mechanisms work properly and smoothly. This set is a true vintage gem.
Dimensions of the chair when folded: H: 89 / W: 46 / D: 5 cm
Seat height: 48 cm
