Description
This mid-century pendant lamp, designed by Pietro Chiesa and produced by the iconic Italian design company Fontana Arte, epitomizes the pinnacle of Italian mid-century modern lighting design.
Chiesa is primarily known for his pioneering work with glass and lighting, which boast clean lines, geometric forms, and a minimalist aesthetic. In this particular piece, Chiesa created a lampshade using two glass saucers of different sizes, surrounding horizontally placed bulbs to achieve a unique geometric shape. The smoked glass plates are made in slightly different hues: the lower, darker-tinted saucer provides a warmer, less sharp light, allowing the upper part to shine. This design enables the pendant lamp to diffuse light beautifully, casting a soft, ambient glow that elegantly illuminates the space.
Both glass shades are placed on an equally interestingly designed brass frame that splits into three rods, creating the impression of scattering rays. In addition to its aesthetic qualities, the structure has been designed to be highly practical. The brass rings serve as holders for each glass plate and correspond with the brass-finished edges of the lower shade, creating a harmonious look. The addition of rods protruding from below gives the entire piece an extremely distinctive appearance.
Despite its vintage origins, the chandelier remains extremely versatile. Its exquisite craftsmanship and timeless, innovative design are evident even more than six decades later. We have ensured that the lamp functions properly and is undamaged. The glass plates are perfectly preserved, and the brass has developed a nice patina with age, enhancing its vintage charm.
The lamp requires three E14 bulbs.
