Kai Kristiansen teak desk model EP401 for Feldballes Møbelfabrik, Denmark 1960s
Kai Kristiansen teak desk model EP401 for Feldballes Møbelfabrik, Denmark 1960s
Description
Elegant Danish executive desk in teak designed in the 1960s by Kai Kristiansen for Feldballe’s Møbelfabrik as Model EP401. This freestanding desk features a teak top, six front drawers, and three open cabinets/spaces at the back. The esthetic essence of this desk lies in its minimalistic form and vibrant contrast between the warm color of the wood and cold silverfish handles. Aluminum was rather a rare material for organic Danish design of the 50s and 70s. The desk reminds more of the French and Italian projects from the same period. It was made in oak, teak, and rosewood.
It is disputed whether it was actually designed by Kai Kristiansen or just came from Feldballe’s Manufacture. No matter the outcome – it is still an extremely interesting piece of Danish mid-century design.
Overall the desk is in great vintage condition. It has been refinished with teak oil. Aluminum parts have been cleaned.
We leave minor, natural signs of use that do not spoil the aesthetic and only confirm it is originality.
