Description
This exceptionally elegant pair of lounge chairs with a footstool originates from Italy, likely made in the early 1950s . Although crafted during the mid-century modern period, the pieces display subtle references to the neoclassical style, creating a fascinating blend of aesthetics. The minimalist yet refined form reflects a delicate neoclassical influence, reminiscent of designs by Gio Ponti and Paolo Buffa. Ponti often merged classical proportions and harmony with modern materials and shapes, as seen in the well-balanced proportions and the decorative buttons of these chairs. Buffa, known for fusing craftsmanship with classical elegance, frequently incorporated neoclassical accents into his work, particularly in the details, which is evident here as well.
The chairs feature newly upholstered, wide velvet seats in a luxurious gold-beige color. The thick seat and ergonomically curved backrests provide exceptional comfort. The high backs, with softly rounded upper edges and three decorative buttons, add a touch of classical elegance. Combined with low seating, these elements align with the design principles of both Ponti and Buffa. Similar chair designs can be found in the collections of both designers. The slender, tapered legs in a dark finish, capped with brass feet, showcase the refined detailing characteristic of mid-20th century Italian furniture.
The set is in fantastic condition after renovation. Our team has taken special care to ensure the finish and authenticity of this vintage piece. The wood has been refreshed with professional compounds and brass feet polished. The new velvet upholstery has given them a refreshed look and restored their former elegance.
