Grete Jalk

1920-2006

One of the few women furniture designers of the mid-century period. Despite her difficult position, she showed the courage and technical daring to experiment with form and molded plywood.

Her ideas seemed too unusual for average consumers but were appreciated by the community. Therefore, the furniture won design awards and recognition at exhibitions but was produced in small numbers.

Grete Jalk’s most important designs are the GJ Chair, a “self-supporting women’s den” for singles and working women, and the “Watch and Listen Unit”.
