Description
This Danish teak executive desk from the 1960s, was most likely made by Feldballes Möbelfabrik and closely resembles Model 60, designed by Kai Kristiansen. Crafted from high-quality teak, it showcases the wood’s warm tones and rich grain. Renowned for his functional yet elegant designs, Kristiansen’s influence is evident in the desk’s meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful details (the construction in exactly the same as in Model 60 and it comes apart the same way).
The desk is equipped with six drawers, three on each side, providing ample storage space. The drawer fronts feature elegantly sculpted handles made from solid teak wood. Notably, the top drawers on each side are lockable, offering secure storage for important documents and personal items. The desk’s construction includes a slightly elevated top, creating a convenient space between the top and the drawer units. This area is practical for storing frequently used documents, a laptop, or other essentials, enhancing the desk’s functionality.
At the back of the desk, there are built-in shelves that can serve as a handy library or storage for personal items. This feature not only makes the desk practical for home or office use but also allows it to be placed in the center of a room, as the back is designed to be visually appealing. The generously sized tabletop provides ample space to work on multiple projects simultaneously, making it ideal for professionals who require a substantial work area.
Despite the passage of several decades, the desk remains in excellent original condition. The drawers operate smoothly, reflecting the desk’s high build quality and careful maintenance over the years. The top has been refinished with professional compounds to protect the wood and highlight its natural beauty.
It was sold in Illum Blights, one of Denmark’s upscale retail shops in the 1960s. The shop’s sticker has been preserved on the bottom of the desktop.
