Description
This iconic Camaleonda Sofa, designed by the legendary Mario Bellini in the 1970s, is a masterpiece that redefined modern furniture design with its innovative approach to form and function. The name “Camaleonda” combines two Italian words: “camaleonte” (chameleon) and “onda” (wave), perfectly describing its adaptable modular structure and flowing silhouette. The original manufacturer’s label remains beneath the sofa, attesting to its provenance and authenticity.
The sofa is newly upholstered in full-grain, natural aniline leather, renowned for its unparalleled quality and tactile appeal. Aniline leather is the most premium grade of leather, derived from the top layer of the hide where the natural grain remains untouched. It is dyed using plant based soluble dyes without a surface pigment, preserving its natural beauty and showcasing unique textures and subtle markings, making each piece truly one of a kind. This premium finish matures beautifully, developing a rich patina over time that adds depth and character. The leather on this sofa is thick and durable, yet remarkably soft, offering a perfect balance of strength and comfort. It is also one of the most long lasting materials and can be used for decades, possibly even for a century.
The Camaleonda sofa is characterized by its oversized, rounded cushions and the signature capitonné tufting, a technique achieved with an ingenious system of hooks, cables, and rings. This design not only adds visual depth and texture but also makes the sofa uniquely modular. Each section can be rearranged or expanded to suit different spaces and layouts, providing endless flexibility. We also have additional modules available that can be finished in this exquisite aniline leather or in other fabrics of your choice.
