The Ant chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in the 1950s for the renowned Danish manufacturer Fritz Hansen is a landmark work in the history of modern furniture design. Initially conceived in 1952, the Ant chair (Model 3100) was groundbreaking for its time, showcasing a minimalist aesthetic combined with advanced production techniques.

Arne Jacobsen, an architect and designer known for his innovative approach, created the Ant chair with the intention of achieving both functionality and beauty. The chair’s distinct shape, reminiscent of an ant with its head raised, is characterized by a single piece of pressure-molded plywood forming both the seat and the backrest. This organic form provides exceptional comfort and support, following Jacobsen’s principle of designing furniture that fits the natural shape of the human body.

The Ant chair’s most revolutionary feature lies in its construction. Jacobsen utilized a novel technique of molding plywood, allowing for a lightweight yet robust structure. The chair rests on a three-legged base made of tubular steel, further emphasizing its minimalist design and ensuring stability. The use of three legs, although unconventional, was a deliberate choice by Jacobsen to achieve a sleek and unobtrusive profile. Later versions of the chair were produced with four legs to satisfy broader market preferences.

With its simple yet elegant form, combined with practicality and high-quality craftsmanship, the Ant chair is suitable for various settings, from modern dining rooms to offices.

Despite the passage of time, our chair remains in perfect original condition with only minimal signs of age. The manufacturer engraving at the bottom confirms its authenticity. The steel legs have been cleaned, and the wood preserved with professional compounds. Manufactured in the early 1950s
