Description
The Kai Kristiansen Executive Teak Desk, Model 59, designed for Feldballes Möbelfabrik in Denmark in the 1960s, is a notable example of mid-century modern design. Kai Kristiansen is renowned for his functional and stylish furniture, and this desk exemplifies his attention to detail and craftsmanship.
The desk showcases beautiful joinery and high-quality rosewood, which is highly valued for its rarity, rich color and distinctive grain patterns. The construction is a testament to the skilled Danish craftsmanship of the time, with meticulous attention to detail in both form and function.
The desk is equipped with six drawers, three on each side, providing ample storage space. The drawer fronts feature elegantly sculpted handles made from solid rosewood. Notably, the top drawers on each side are lockable, offering secure storage for important documents and personal items. The desk’s construction includes a slightly elevated top, creating a convenient space between the top and the drawer units. This area is practical for storing frequently used documents, a laptop, or other essentials, enhancing the desk’s functionality.
At the back of the desk, there are built-in shelves that can serve as a handy library or storage for personal items. This feature not only makes the desk practical for home or office use but also allows it to be placed in the center of a room, as the back is designed to be visually appealing. The generously sized tabletop provides ample space to work on multiple projects simultaneously, making it ideal for professionals who require a substantial work area.
Despite the passage of several decades, the desk remains in excellent original condition. The drawers operate smoothly, reflecting the desk’s high build quality and careful maintenance over the years. The top has been refinished with a new layer of lacquer to protect the wood and highlight the stunning beauty of the rosewood. One key is included.
This model is highly sought after by collectors of mid-century modern furniture due to its combination of practicality, elegance, and exceptional build quality.
