A cosmic journey through time – the history of Space Age design

The Space Age style emerged in the mid-20th century, during the Cold War and the intense space race between the USA and the USSR. Breakthrough events, such as the launch of the first satellite and manned missions, sparked the imagination of society and became the main inspiration for designers, artists and architects. This was the era in which the most iconic furniture designs were created, now considered milestones in design history.

Pioneers of this movement include Verner Panton, Eero Aarnio and Joe Colombo. Their work defined the aesthetics of Space Age, introducing bold sculptural forms and innovative uses of plastics into interiors.
