Beschreibung
The Model 19 Highboard, designed and crafted by Omann Jun in the 1950s, is a prime example of Danish modern design at its best. Omann Jun’s furniture was typically designed in-house by members of the Omann family, and their work was characterized by elegant lines, refined craftsmanship, and the use of high-quality materials, which earned them high recognition internationally.
This credenza combines functionality with a sleek, minimalist aesthetic, balanced proportions, and an emphasis on craftsmanship, which together create a timeless and versatile piece of furniture. Made from rich teak, the Model 19 showcases the beautiful natural grain of the wood, complemented by subtle detailing such as intricately carved handles. The use of natural materials and attention to detail in construction highlight the Danish commitment to sustainability and the ethos of creating furniture that is built to last.
This highboard is probably an early version of model #19 with a way thicker, beautifully contoured solid teak wood frame ( so rare ! ) The use of such a large amount of solid teak wood makes a piece a sculpture like object. It would be extremely expensive nowadays to use such an amount of teak.
The highboard is designed with practicality in mind, offering ample storage space through its combination of cabinets, drawers, and shelving. The sliding doors provide easy access while maintaining a streamlined appearance. Adjustable shelves allow for versatile use, making it suitable for storing a variety of items, from tableware to books. The design also includes a set of drawers, which provide additional storage for smaller items.
The highboard is supported by elegantly tapered legs, which not only add to its light, floating appearance but also reflect the Scandinavian preference for raising furniture off the ground to create a sense of spaciousness. Additionally, considering the size and weight of the furniture, the bottom of the piece was thoughtfully reinforced with wooden slats, ensuring strength even with a large number of stored items.
We have restored this piece. Old oil layers have been removed and several new ones have been applied. It is in perfect condition with almost no signs of use. Danish oil properly applied gives a low sheen satin glow that is extremely appealing and enhances the wood grain.
- height of drawers: 5 cm
- ground clearance: 38 cm
