Renovated Vintage Chests of Drawers
A chest of drawers is one of the most versatile pieces of furniture in the mid-century modern style. It takes up less space than a sideboard, and thanks to its drawers, it helps keep your bedroom, living room, hallway, or study organized. Our collection includes original chests of drawers from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, crafted primarily from teak and sourced from Denmark and Scandinavia.
Each piece undergoes professional renovation in our workshop: we sand and protect the tops, check the operation of the drawers and slides, and clean and refresh the interior. After renovation, the chest of drawers is ready for everyday use.
Renovated Danish Teak Chests of Drawers from the 1960s
Danish teak chests of drawers are the largest group in our collection. They are distinguished by their compact form, warm honey teak color, and carefully crafted details: profiled handles (often cut directly into the drawer front), gently rounded top edges, and slender, tapering legs. These are features typical of Danish 1960s design, giving the chests of drawers a light, elegant look despite their solid construction.
Our current offerings include both small MCM chests of drawers with three drawers (ideal as bedside tables, hallway furniture, or a compact solution for smaller bedrooms) and taller models of refurbished MCM chests of drawers with four or five drawers, capable of holding a full wardrobe.
Renovated Chests of Drawers with Hidden Functions
An interesting feature of many Danish chests of drawers from the 1960s is the hidden functions built into the furniture. Some pieces in our collection feature a top drawer with a pull-out dressing table and mirror, allowing the chest of drawers to also be used as elegant bedroom furniture for makeup or morning beauty routines. There are also models that combine the functions of a chest of drawers with a writing desk, where the front folds down to reveal a worktop and file compartments.
These multifunctional solutions were typical of mid-20th-century Scandinavian design, which valued space-saving and thoughtfully combining functions in a single piece of furniture.
Dimensions and Variants of Renovated Mid-Century Modern Chests of Drawers
The chests of drawers in our offer are available in several sizes. Small models (approx. 60-80 cm wide, 3 drawers) are perfect for a bedside or hallway. Standard chests of drawers (approx. 80-100 cm) are classic bedroom furniture. All models are approximately 40-45 cm deep, allowing them to fit even in narrow spaces. Each product description includes the exact dimensions, number of drawers, wood type, and whether the structure is solid wood or veneered on a wood core.
Häufig gestellte Fragen (FAQ)
1. What is the difference between a vintage chest of drawers and a sideboard?
A chest of drawers is a taller, narrower piece of furniture, primarily supported by drawers (typically 3-6 drawers arranged vertically). A sideboard is lower, significantly wider (150-220 cm), and rests on sliding doors with internal shelves. A chest of drawers is more often found in a bedroom, while a sideboard is used in a living room or dining room.
2. What wood are chests of drawers made from?
The vast majority of chests of drawers in our collection are made of teak, a warm, honey-colored species with a distinctive grain, typical of Danish design in the 1960s. Some pieces are solid wood, others feature teak veneer on a plywood or pine core. Information about the construction is provided in the product description.
3. Do the drawers in vintage chest of drawers function properly?
Yes. During renovation, we inspect and repair the drawer slides, wax the drawers, and adjust the fit of the fronts. The original wooden slides (typical of Danish dressers from the 1960s) operate wood-on-wood and, after waxing, ensure a smooth sliding action. If any part needs replacing, we indicate this in the description.
4. Can a small vintage dresser be used as a bedside table?
Yes, and this is one of the most common uses for our compact dressers. Models measuring 60-80 cm wide and with three drawers are perfect for next to a bed. They provide significantly more storage space than a traditional bedside table while maintaining elegant proportions.
5. How do you ship your dressers?
We pack our dressers with multi-layered protection, and we prevent the drawers from sliding out during transport. We work with FedEx, DHL, UPS, and specialized furniture carriers. Send us your zip code using the Kontaktformular and we will provide you with the exact delivery cost and time.
