Set of eight Cesca chairs, most in black lacquer form the 1960-1970s from Italy
Cesca chair, a worldwide recognized design by Marcel Breuer from the late 1920s, is still manufactured today. There have been many manufactures of these chairs along the way. And there are many unlicensed copies nowadays, the difference is that they will not survive a decade, not mentioning half of a century.
The presented set comes from Northern Italy and is most likely by Gavina. Gavina was purchased by Knoll in 1968 and the chairs come from around that period based on the usage and patina. One chair bears an embossed “Made in Italy” inscription, while the others do not. Although there are slight differences among the chairs, they all belong to the same period or are very close to it. The chairs are in original condition and feature beautiful caning in dark honey color cleaned and preserved with professional compound. The frames are traditionally in beech.
Our team thoroughly inspected the chairs, confirming their stability and full functionality. The chrome frames show some minor discoloration but no corrosion. Some of the chairs are little more bent back (this is often for the chairs that were used the most, of when the previous owner has been a big person). That happens after decades though and is a very slight disproportion.
Our goal is to restore the furniture to its best condition, considering its age of 60 years. Clients from all around the world have already trusted our work and its fruits. If you are new to vintage furniture, you can contact us for any possible explanations and close-ups of the piece.
The chairs are in fantastic vintage condition with minor age-related signs, like light scratches on the black lacquer, which do not spoil the aesthetic.
They make for great embellishments in any interior.
