Description
This pair of iconic Wassily Chairs designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925, were produced by Italian furniture manufacturer Gavina in the 1960s.
Originally named the Model B3 chair, it was later renamed the “Wassily Chair” after the painter Wassily Kandinsky, who greatly admired its innovative design. These iconic chairs are characterised by sleek, minimalist design, featuring a tubular steel frame and black leather seat, back, and armrests.
The use of tubular steel, a material that Breuer was inspired to explore after seeing the curved handlebars of his bicycle, not only gives the chairs their distinctive appearance but also makes them lightweight and sturdy. The strips of leather for the seat, back, and armrests, which are stretched across the metal frame, provide both comfort and a sleek, modern look. Despite their minimalist approach, the chairs have a striking visual impact. The clean lines and geometric form make them standout pieces in any setting.
Our team has checked the chairs. Despite the passage of six decades, both chairs remain in perfect original condition with very minor sihgns of wear, little patina and absolutely minimal cracks on the leather, which is normal for such an old piece of furniture. Beautifully preserved symbol of the modernist Bauhaus movement and a testament to innovative design. Gavina had stickers, but they did not survive, what is the significant for Gavina is the metal work and the leather work, which is totaly genuine here.
