PH5 pendant lamp by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen, Denmark, 1970s
Description
PH5 is one of the most famous pendant Danish lights, designed by Poul Henningsen for the lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen. The PH5 was first introduced in 1958 and has since become an iconic piece of mid-century modern design. The purpose of the PH5 design was to provide glare-free lighting, achieved by the lampshade with several concentric shades working together to diffuse the light and prevent any harsh glare. The lamp also features a curved, trumpet-shaped reflector, which directs light downwards, creating a soft, warm glow.
Over the years, Louis Poulsen has produced the PH5 in various colors, the most famous in white and in the later edition blue, red, and orange. The presented one is white and has blue and red plates and violet details of the construction.
Overall, very good vintage original condition without any significant scratches or dents. Top of a slightly different hue of white than the rest of the lamp. Original wiring with 155 cm long cord. The manufacturer’s label preserved.
The PH5 is still in production today and remains a versatile lighting option that can fit in a range of interior designs-both residential and commercial.
