Renovated Vintage Sideboards

The kredens is the most recognizable piece of furniture in the Mid-Century Modern style. Its low, elongated form with sliding doors and discreet interior divisions made it a symbol of Scandinavian design of the 1950s and 1960s. Our collection features original sideboards from this period, primarily from Denmark, but also from Italy and France.

Each piece is unique and comes to us from a private collection or European antique shop. Before being offered for sale, it undergoes renovation in our workshop, including cleaning and securing the tabletops, repairing the sliding door mechanisms, drawers, and locks, and refreshing the interior of the storage compartments.

Renovated Danish Teak Sideboards, 1950s-1970s

Danish teak sideboards are the largest group in our offer. They are distinguished by the combination of warm, honey-colored teak with precisely crafted details: inlaid handles (cut directly into the door front), soft-closing drawers, and sliding doors on wooden runners. Many pieces feature the manufacturer's or designer's stamp on the underside, making attribution easy.

Among the manufacturers represented in the current collection, you'll find Omann Jun, a Danish manufacturer known for its massive, perfectly proportioned teak furniture from the 1950s (e.g., model #19, one of our most valuable pieces), as well as Hundevad & Co., with sideboards attributed to Carlo Jensen, recognizable by their gently rounded edges and deep compartments.

Renovated rosewood sideboards, including Kai Kristiansen

Rosewood sideboards are rarer and more valuable pieces. Rosewood is distinguished by its darker, more intense grain and is currently more difficult to obtain due to trade restrictions (CITES). Our offer includes, among others, a rosewood sideboard designed by Kai Kristiansen for Feldballes Møbelfabrik, as well as a compact model attributed to Hundevad.

Italian and French-Style Sideboards

In addition to Scandinavian furniture, we also present sideboards in other styles. A standout here is the rosewood sideboard from the Parioli series, designed by Ludovico Arcebis in Italy in the 1970s, combining Italian elegance with modernist simplicity of form. The collection also includes Charlotte Perriand-style sideboards, with distinctive sliding doors made of unfinished wood, reminiscent of French Brutalism.

Sizes and Variations of Sideboards from the MCM Period

Odnowione sideboardy in our offer are available in several sizes. Full-size models range from 150 to 220 cm wide, approximately 45 cm deep, and approximately 80 cm high, allowing for legs to be placed underneath and maintaining a light form. Smaller sideboards (approx. 90-120 cm wide) are suitable for hallways, bedrooms, or smaller living rooms. Each product description includes the exact dimensions, wood type, number of drawers and compartments, and whether the piece is made of solid wood or veneer.

1. What is the difference between a sideboard and a chest of drawers?

A sideboard is a low, elongated cabinet (typically 150-220 cm wide and approximately 80 cm high), whose main space consists of storage compartments behind sliding doors, supplemented by drawers. A chest of drawers is narrower, taller, and rests primarily on drawers. In practice, a sideboard is more often placed in a living room or dining room, while a chest of drawers is more often placed in a bedroom.

2. What wood are sideboards made from?

Most often, they're made of teak (a warm, honey-colored shade with a distinctive grain) or rosewood (a darker, more intense pattern, rarer, and more valuable). Some models are solid wood, others feature veneer on a plywood or pine core. Each product description includes the wood type and construction.

3. Do the sliding doors and drawers function properly?

Yes. During renovations, we check and repair all mechanisms: sliding door guides, drawers, locks, and hinges. We wax the wooden guides to ensure smooth door movement. If any components require replacement, we'll mention this in the description.

4. Will a vintage sideboard accommodate a TV?

Most full-size sideboards (150+ cm) have sufficient surface area and top load capacity to support a TV. Solid wood or thick veneer tops will easily support a modern TV. We provide precise dimensions for each product so you can verify this.

5. How do you ship sideboards?
