Danish mid century home office teak wall unit in the style of P. Cadovius, P. Sorensen, Denmark 1960s
Description
Danish mid-century teak home office wall unit, designed in the 1960s in the style of Poul Cadovius and manufactured most likely by by Preben Sorensen, is a 3-bay fully modular shelving system. It was made by one of the manufacturers making wall units pararely to Cadovius in a similar manner and comparable quality.
The wall unit features interchangeable parts that can be arranged as needed, using an easy brass hanger system with regular slots in solid wood rails. Each part can be moved anywhere. The sepcial feature is the desk system. There are two deep shleves, where the bottom one can be easily removed and the top one can serve as a desk. One can remove the bottom shelf for good and thus have a home office unit. The inside of the sliding doors cabinet laos serves that purpose.
The piece is a fine example of Danish carpentry from the mid-century era, visible in finely crafted edges and solid teak contoured handles.
This set consists of:
- one cabinet with sliding doors and with small inner shelf: H: 50/W: 80/D: 45cm
- chest of drawers with 4 drawers H: 50/W: 80/D: 45cm
- The cabinet with sliding doors is slightly (around 2 cm) shallower than the chest of drawers.
- glass door cabinet with small inner shelf H: 35/W: 80/D: 36 cm
- 2 desks cabinets W: 80/D: 45 cm,
- 7 shelves 20 cm deep
- 4 wooden rails 200 cm long
- brass hardware
The sliding door cabinet is one centimeter smaller in depth then the chest of drawers, but this is how this unit was set originally.
The wall unit has been upcycled. We use varius parts parts to revive the units that are incomplete, or severely damaged. All the wood is being sanded down, and we apply coats of stain to uniform the look. Later we finish it with Danish oil. If necessary we replace the damaged veneer, also for a better look. The rails are redone according to the originals.
We leave minor, natural signs of use that do not spoil the aesthetic and only confirm it is originality. We bring it back to its best look, considering it is 60 years old.
